Brumio Maximus

An Aardman-inspired stop motion puppet designed to fit into an episode of ‘Shaun the Sheep’. From his helmet to his socks and sandals, Brumio is fully animatable.

Design:

Having carefully considered the character design, ensuring that he met the practical requirements for a fully animatable stop motion puppet while still allowing his stubborn grumpiness to shine , I set about making a scale drawing and plasticine maquette.

Work in Progress:

I then took the hands and feet from the maquette and made two part moulds for silicone casting. The head, helmet, and side flaps were moulded separately in silicone and cast in fibreglass. The helmet was attached to the head with a small mechanism so that it could tilt, allowing it to act as an expressive brow. The flaps are on hinges.

The below pictures also show the armature adjustments that I made and fabrication stage of the process, as well as the hand painted eyes.
